Hi, just curious as to what everyone thinks about knee wraps, wrist wraps, hands straps etc for protection. Im not a powerlifter and mildly strong, IMO. Im not flexing these numbers, but I squat 315 to depth with ease, 275 bench for reps, 810 on leg press etc. People tell me to where safety equipment for protection, but I dont hurt, my joints are fine etc. At what point do you need to where items for safety vs going raw?
thanks!!

Wear all of it if you want to and then some. I'm getting older, in the past couple years I just finally began implementing some protective equipment and it has helped immensely. 5mm Knee sleeves ain't much but it shuts down knee aches for me, wrist wraps for heavy pressing are basically mandatory, straps for deadlifting or pulling movements are wonderful if you're not worried about powerlifting, I've gone further and picked up a light pair of squat briefs as well which add compression and support to the hips and slightly the low back, I can squat for days with those things on. The longer I do this and the more nagging aches I acquire, the more I understand the mentality of the guys in equipped lifting- Someday, I will be in full equipped gear as well for my lifts. Injury prevention = longevity = more gains over time which I can't argue with.

I personally recommend the basic three (sleeves, wraps, straps) and a belt of course, but if you feel like spending a little bit more pick up a pair of Spud Gateway Briefs or Mark Bell Slingshot Briefs for more hip health.

As long as they cover the whole knee joint they're fine, so if they aren't going up over your quad just keep them a bit lower. But yes, tighter is almost always better unless it makes you have circulation issues that endanger you during lifts.

Whether to wrap, brace, or limit the mobility of a body part is subjective. For instance, knee wraps. I only use them on my heaviest lifts because at a certain point in the overload, my knees will feel unstable and swell afterwards. The rest of the lifts, I want to spend strengthening them. Too much wrapping and bracing will prevent the development of strength and mobility, leaving you more vulnerable to injury. Not enough can also put you at risk. So my approach is, Listen to your body and only wrap as necessary.
