I monitor blood pressure daily, not for any other reason than cause i want to do it daily. My first cuff was like 9-17" arms, my arms are right under 19". The first cuff always gave me high b.p., somewhere between 140-80 no matter what I did. I got every nature otc supplement you can get, nothing, cialis, nothing. So I was worried I was going to have to play it safe with gear. Well recently the cuff blew out. I got a new one for 18-22" arms. That one was reading, 112-60/70. Recently though, when I check my b.p., ive done this twice now, I would get two readings SUPER high and then two readings in my normal range. The bladder covers 80% of my left arm, the arrow is in the reference range etc. Everything seems right, so I started taking telmisartan, just to play it safe and as a pre-cautionary measure. what is everyones thoughts? thanks

Make sure you’re sitting upright with your arm on a table so the cuff is at heart level, feet flat on the ground. Chill and sit there for 2-3 minutes before taking a measurement to get an accurate reading. What brand is your device? Some are really shitty and give inaccurate readings, especially if the batteries on it are running low. I think Omron is regarded as one of the more accurate at home BP monitors, so if you don’t have one get one of those.

OMRON only allows for a 17” cuff. I have a really recent version Bluetooth and all that fancy shit. First time I ran it, it told me I was having an episode and to call 911.

I can only go to the Dr and get manual. The machines won’t read right. I even donated this past Wednesday and she said it was high after not being able to get the cuff around my arm.. But I’m on lisinopril so it’s not possible. Last Dr visit with manual I was 102/64.

I honestly don’t trust my home bp cuff at all. It usually gives me insanely high readings too because the cuff is snug before I even put the velcro on. It also varies wildly from each test, especially if I adjust it. My home monitor gives me like 140/80+. The doctor three days ago said 120/66.

Either buy a sphygmomanometer and learn how to use it or buy the newest omron, those things are probably the most accurate but they cost a decent amount. Don't go with the cheap options when it comes to this.

Find a medical friend and get a manual reading to compare; only way to make sure it's accurate.
Too small of a cuff will result in falsely-elevated reading, so first scenario makes sense.
The second scenario with the drastically different back-to-back readings may mean there's a calibration issue.
Also, are you taking the cuff off between those readings and re-strapping it, or just leaving it on your arm and hitting start again?

Can I ask why you don't use telmisartan instead? Since to be the go-to drug in bodybuilding world for controlling bp among other benefits
