So I see a lot of people lose their minds. “Pinned deltoid and blood came out after, am I gonna die”… the vascular system of the body is spread throughout when as you progress a needle through a muscle you are most likely passing through blood vessels and some blood will leak out after injection. When you hit a vein you will see a flash in the needle hub itself, if you aspirate before injecting you will then bring blood back into the syringe itself. Luckily as a medic and for a teaching point I advanced a needle into a vein while pinning glutes today and have attached an image so you know what to look out for. Solution was simple since I hadn’t aspirated yet no blood was brought into the syringe itself. Placed new needle on reswabbed the injection site and sent it. I feel like its something we all explain but if you know what to look for its easier. Hope this helps someone!
