Anyone else suddenly becoming a butchers apprentice with the prices of prep meats skyrocketing?

Gone from buying boneless/skinless chicken breast to bone in skin on, to now just buying whole chickens again.

ALSO, anyone else here raising their own meats? I've recently begun raising rabbits, just had our first liter about 6 weeks ago.

Bro I get chicken breast tenders at Costco for 3.49 a lb. Fresh not frozen. Can’t be that much!

You gotta stop shopping at Erewhon and Whole Foods.

I get the skin on with rib bone for 2.89 at my local Publix so far, whole chickens are 1.49

I used to hit up Costco but after including gas/ time (it's 30 minutes away) it just wasn't worth it anymore as I realized 90% of the stuff we'd go there for was basically the same price as local stores... And I don't need 75lbs of potatoes and garlic. If they opened one up closer then maybe it would be worth the membership again

I'm very lucky in that I have five different grocery stores within 3-4 miles. I spend a couple of minutes looking at grocery store apps, find the most outrageous sale I can, and pile up the freezer. If you have a couple of different options in the area, it's worth a bit of a drive if you've got the space to store it.

Per gram of protien, and even in a small area, raising chickens for eggs is much cheaper and easier than raising them for meat.

I second the Costco chicken breast. It used to be 2.99/lb but now it’s 3.49 or at least in Ohio. I buy at least 5-6 packs at a time along with their ground Turkey breast it’s 93/7 and pretty good IMO. The chicken breast however is the best quality for the money… I can find it cheaper at Meijer and such but the quality is subpar compared to Costco so I stick w that. Also I have a local farmer I buy my beef from usually 1/2 cow at a time. This time it lasted me n the wife about 10-11 months. Should have another one ready for me he said around late next month. Prices have went up but understandable & the quality is great. If you don’t have a local farmer I recommend the Costco beef as well. They are great.

I think ground beef is around 3.49 a pound for 93/7. 1.35 pounds of that is like 117 grams or protein. Add like 6 eggs 2 slices of cheese, 6pz canned chicken you're well over 200g without whey. And all that is stupid cheap and easy to cook.

Aldi has a big family pack a boneless skinless chicken breast for about two bucks a pound where I live! It's the cheapest meat around, Walmart over three bucks a pound. And the Aldi chicken is delicious! I'm in California right now so for business and meat is expensive here!!!

I roast whole chickens. Used to raise my own but no space now. I eat the breast meat but the family likes the dark meat. Carcas goes into crockpot overnight with salt and lemon juice to help it render into bone broth. Refrigerate then skim off fat. I use the broth to make rice.

I used to get boneless chicken breast from the local grocery store, and meat market that sold them for 1.99/lb or even less if bought in Bulk. However the quality of meat is so noticeable I am willing to pay a little more for the Costco brand. Actually lately I prefer the 93/7 ground Turkey from Costco, I think it’s just a little more palatable than chicken for me at the moment.

I agree w the high cost of beef being a little expensive to justify every meal. However one meal out of 5 meals is more justifiable. Get some good micronutrients as well with the beef.

I eat on average 2-2.25 lbs of meat a day, I would hardly call your analogy accurate. Nice try though lol
Also if I ate beef every meal my already elevated Iron levels would be through the roof. Eating beef every meal isn’t just about price.

Usually get meat from Costco but have been dipping into Trader Joe’s for 96/4 ground beef and chicken sausages. Prices are reasonable. Macros on the chicken sausages are P17g, and F4g and are tasty AF. Definitely makes cutting meals way more palatable. I stuff the 96/4 with feta cheese to make burgers and they come out amazing.
