For the record, I dont take insulin but a family member does and I've been stocking up on things we would need in the event we cant get them if supply chains get worse. With that said, I'd like to get some backup insulin. Do I need a certain kind? I know they use the pens now, but not sure if it's a specific kind, or what would be the most cost effective. I found a couple insulin sources on here that have vials for $16-20, humininsulin R and humininsulin N. Can someone tell me if either one of these will work? For the record, I believe there type 2, and early 60's, if that matters.

I would not recommend stocking up on insulin.

Unopened insulin only has a shelf life of approximately 1 year.

agree. Insulin is pretty perishable. This is quite unfortunate for ppl who depend on it.

Ok, so what about just a 4-6 month supply? I would think even if half goes bad, having a few months backup if not available is a good idea. I'm sure theres some other alternatives that aren't well publicized or well known for some reason, but I wouldn't know where to look.
