Do you use a lifting belt?

If you do, when/why do you use it? I’ve never used one and am curious if it really helps or not?

It helps a lot. It serves as a nice brace for deads and squats. Plus there is the mental aspect: with a belt on, it serves as a lifting cue to remind me to take a deep breath and brace before each rep. I also feel secure in it. You can definitely attack a little more weight too.
Finally, it prevents all kind of back snap action.

I use it during heavy (4-6 reps) working sets for squats, deadlifts, standing OHP and Incline Bench. Like said above, really just reminds me to brace, and forces you to stay braced when you’re in the shit. Definitely feel like it helps, particularly for squats and deadlifts. Probably not necessary for bench pressing, incline or flat, but I’m used to wearing one at this point. Doesn’t hurt, anyway.

Best thing I can say for it is that since I started using one, I wouldn’t think of not using it.

I almost never use one. I’ve rarely found that I feel more secure/braced/solid with one. I suppose if I wore one more often I’d probably find a better match/fit. Right now, the only time I’d even consider wearing a belt would be a one rep max on my deadlift or squat.

I used to use one and I still believe that I blew my asshole out because of it… that was 5 years ago and put me out of lifting for a long time

I think using one caused me to get a small epigastric hernia. Stopped using the belt and actually feel less pressure on that area when lifting sub maximal.

All kinds!

So you wanna build some muscle, man? That’s good man. That’s real good. You can use a belt, hell I use one…but all of this is just advice. Do whatever the FUCCCC you wanna do!

Have had some back issues so I wear a light weight one for a little extra support and it helps prevent lower back pain after squatting.
