When pinning Ventro

FYI,

When you pin your ventro-glutes… do not pin at an angle, pin directly in / perpendicular to the muscle.

Like an idiot, two mornings ago, I pinned my ventro at an angle, the needle pointing more towards my buttcheeck than straight/directly in.

Soon after pinning, I headed to the gym, it was chest day. Besides using the powerlifting form for flat barbell bench, the only other time I used my legs, was during my weight dips setup. Squatting down, strapping the chain to the plates and back onto the belt, then pressing my legs down to stand up with the heaviest amount of weight being 135lbs strapped to the belt.

About 3 hours after gym, sitting down, I start feeling sort of like a pinched nerve, pain radiating from my hip down to behind my knee. Perplexed, I stand up, and to my surprise my fucking leg feels as if I was cutting blood circulation to it, so I was getting pins/needles and numbness for a few seconds with a deep bruise feeling in my hip. Not at my ventroglute, or at least in the area I pinned, but to the side of it, toward my buttcheek.

At first I didn’t put the two together, I thought I finally some how fucked up the balance between my quads and hams or something causing a flare up in my IT Band to my TFL.

But the symptoms of an inflamed ITB is pain in the outer knee, which wasn’t the case, at all. It was directly behind the knee and the pain was more like the feeling of restless leg syndrom.

All of a yesterday walked with a limp, couldn’t go to the gym, it was leg day, same with today. Though today the pain is nearly gone and it’s only at the hip (TFL).

My only conclusion is… knowing that I pinned at an angle and didn’t think twice about it, the oil went straight to the TFL area and added some pressure, enough pressure that it caused my significant pain.

tldr; I pinned ventro at an angle towards buttcheek, ended up in pain from hip down to behind knee, walked with a limp for two almost three days now. The conclusion is that because I pinned ventro at an angle, the oil must have landed right in the TFL area, adding unnecessary pressure which caused significant pain from TFL down through ITB. Could easily mistaken the pain for IT band issues.

Also going to add a tip regarding IT band: Don’t foam roll your IT band when some asshole fucking idiot (massage therapist) tells you its very tight. What you should foam roll are all the muscles surrounding it, including the glutes. The IT band only needs static stretching.

VG fucked me up so bad. My hands would not stop shaking. I tried 6 times and everytime got horrible PIP. My right hip still kinda hurts sometimes.

Yes with Ventro go straight in and 1inch needle is sufficient. A 1.5in pinned straight in (no angle) gave me similar symptoms to what youre describing. Worst pip of my life

Damn, that sucks. Thats probably my favorite place to pin. I lift my leg to the side to pop the muscle out, mark a bullseye with the top of a needle cap, and bam! Constantly sticking yourself is kinda dangerous though. Be careful out there!I use a 1" 25g for everything.

idk why but when i pin my left side i fuck it up every time.
the muscle swells up and pip for days. Don’t have the problem at all on my right side.

what do you pin instead of VG?

The PIP from pinning VG with a 1.5 inch makes me feel like my hip joint is dislocated. 1 inch for me.

I use a 29g 1/2” for VG and not problem at all, don’t even fell it.

One time I pinned too close to the hip joint, and this happened to me. Since then, any time I pin the VG on my left side, no matter what I get a mild flare-up of this pain.

Yup, that’s the trick!!!

(supine spinal twist stretch, pops that fucker out and makes life so much easier).

This is how’s it’s done and makes all the difference for ventrolateral injections. Perform supine spinal twist stretch and the TFL/glute med region will pop out, inject at 90 degree angle with 1" 25g… Life’s easy.

Wow I’m lucky as I just gave myself two side glute shots and a hip shot on my left side. No real issues have popped up yet. My right side glute has abit of a deep soreness but nothing ridiculous. I used a 25g 5/8 inch needle. Going to deep for me hurts like a mofo and I feel like I’m hitting nerves on the way in that deep.

Just keep pinning your forearms, it’s crazy that the hundreds of years of medicine nobody ever thought of doing IM forearm injections until you came along. I’m sure the medical books will name this new spot after you.
