Any of you smoke, vape, consume nicotine or THC?

Used to smoke cigarettes, switched to vaping. Been blasting and cruising PEDs for a few years now. Just now coming across an article that vaping nicotine or THC can effect muscle growth in a negative way (but I’m almost positive this is in regards to natural lifters and not enhanced lifters) due to it effecting protein synthesis.

I’m a bit confused because didn’t Dorian Yates used to smoke a pack of cigarettes a day, and wasn’t Arnold known for his THC and cigar consumption? I also know tons of people (pros too) that use both.

Has nicotine / THC consumption effected your progress in growth in any way? Just curious

I vape and occasional THC use when I’m deep in off season and need to push food beyond already crazy high amounts.

Overall it definitely has a negative effect as you get bigger. For me anyways, when I was small 190,200, 210 lbs I was fine. Ever since hitting 250 and climbing my breathing is extremely bad after my sets. If I quit vaping for 2-3 weeks it goes away.

Carrying around all the muscle with vaping is just added stress I guess. Yeah Dorian smoked cigs, ruhl smoked cigs. Doesn’t mean it was optimal just hard as hell to quit

Gotcha, however my question was if vaping nicotine or THC has had any negative effect on muscle growth in your experience.

I have been able to build my physique while using both, but I have also been enhanced for years now. Also, my BP (125/67 as of monday this week) has been healthy and breathing has been fine as I keep up with my cardio. But if I’m missing out on serious size gains, I might be ready to toss the nicotine and THC out of the window haha

In general, we know that nic is unhealthy. Although we all do unhealthy things, we balance the risks with the benifits. Nic has no advantage, other than Weight loss...if that's your goal. Anecdotally, my 30 yo son, currently natty, a hard gainer, quit nic 2 months ago. Appetite increased, improved sleep, gained 12 pounds of muscle, increased endurance and stamina.

I currently use nicotine daily and I’m the middle of a bulk. I’ve been easily hitting all of my macros and steadily putting on good size. Would dropping the nicotine put on even more size?

Absolutely. Yes. Ppl gain weight when they quit. For many, that is a bad thing. But for a dude on a bulk, there are zeeeeero benifit to using nic.

If I’ve been hitting my calories and macros daily while using nicotine, how would I gain extra weight not using it though?

Well I was saying yes, lack of being able to breathe when you start getting bigger then adding nic on top of that surely is not benefiting muscle gain. Will you become a mass monster if you don’t smoke nic vs smoking it.. well no haha. But it’s better to avoid if possible. If that makes sense.

Although I believe THC to provide benefit to muscle building in sense of eating when in offseason (not prep). Guys like Ian valliere, nick walker, guy cisternino are pretty open about smoking weed for this benefit.

When you’re 250,260, and so forth as an open BBer breathing becomes a challenge regardless of nic use or not. Nic use will just make it worsen. So in time as you gain more and more size (idk what you’re at now) it just gets harder alone, with nic added it’s worse. So in my case nic hurts muscle gain indirectly.

Nicotine impairs protien synthesis, which slows muscle growth. It can even cause muscle wasting.
It also speeds metabolism, causing poor nutrient absorbtion and weight loss. So although you are consuming your target macros, you are not absorbing them as well....same with your micros. So, yes, you could grow more muscle if you didn't consume nicotine, inhaled, or otherwise. I know it's hard to quit. REAL hard. But as a BBer, you are used to doing hard things. Good Luck.

Just tossed it in the garbage. Today is the day of quitting. Thank you sir.

Congrats. I'm very happy for you. You'll feel better, look better and smell better. First 3 days are the hardest but bear with it.

She is a ma’am lol….. and her advice is spot on. I got tied up into vaping nic for several years. And quit about a year ago.
Another point to consider…..nicotine is a chemical… a drug……. We already put things in our body that aren’t great for us. Why add another chemical to burden the body with??? My skin improved after I quit. And not being slave to the vapor device every day,all day was also nice.
I believe my growth has been better since I quit. I also think my body is happier to have one less chemical in it 24/7

Yes. I'll not a Sir. It doesn't matter much in this context...except that maybe my advice is rather motherly. My 30 yo son quit nicotine 2 months ago and his overall health has improved dramatically....weight, PRs, sleep quality, skin, mood....
I'm so damn happy for him.

People gaining weight when they quit doesn't apply to the vast majority of people on this sub. Unless they don't have their diet dialed in at all. It's an appetite suppressant not a weight loss drug. If someone is already hitting their bulking macros they won't just magically gain weight. Also plenty of people use nic to stay alert, focused and awake.

I'm going to need a source on the claim that nicotine harms nutrient absorption and slows protein synthesis. That seems very untrue

That’s what my main question was. I’ve been hitting my macros daily. I have a coach, I follow the plan. We’re in the off season right now so my growth phase has started. I’m running NPP, mast, HGH, Test. I was confused as to how nicotine would interfere with size gains if I’m a) easily hitting my macros and b) running those specific compounds that very much aid in the process in growing.

I do understand nicotine is bad, but work stress catches up to me sometimes… however, I am on day 1 of quitting.
