I’m sure it’s part addiction and part genetic, but the enabling family members drive me crazy. A lot of these people can’t drive let alone leave their houses and rely on their family/friends to give them food.
Enabling family members are the worst but it’s hard to watch a family member “suffer” from something and not feel inclined to help.
That being said - I don’t believe that addiction is a disease but more likely a symptom/side effect of poorly managed/mismanaged mental health. These people are fucked off upstairs and eating is a vice. It makes them feel better but you could say the same for compulsive masturbation sufferers. I mean sure, a good wank is great but beating your dick to a pulp day in and day out isn’t a disease. You’ve got some other things wrong that make you want to punch the clown to feel better.
@“Misriah” [Bring that big brain of yours in here]
Idk where I stand at the moment. I believe that addiction and dependency are two differint though. like how in dependent on THC at the moment but I’m tapering down and off. Not addicted, dependent and a little autistic? Absolutely.
The whole “I need THAT FUCKIN drug and I’ll do anything to get it” is beyond me, and I’m plagued with my own depression, anxieyy, etc throughout everyday life.
There’s also the mathematician dude who LOVED his meth (or maybe just amphetamine?). Anyway, he took/used it so much that his colleagues or something thought he was an addict, they made a bet, and the speedy mathematician won it, then went right back to using for his studies. Saying the only bad thing was that they set mathematics back a month. Or however it goes.
I believe addiction is both a disease in and of itself, but also that it’s a symptom of side effect of other mental health disorders. Then your drug of choice ends up being what’s usually easily accessible. Or whatever your brain chemistry says “dude that makes me so hard”
Then we could also just look it up and see what psychology thinks…
