You can and most likely WILL lose fat and gain muscle simultaneously on your first cycle. Eat at maintenance or maybe 100-200 calories above your current maintenance (your maintenance calories will go up when you begin steroids). There are several scenarios where it is very easy to recomp:
- If you’re very overweight
- If you’re a beginner in the gym
- IF YOU INTRODUCE STEROIDS
It becomes harder and harder to recomp as you get leaner, as you build more and more muscle, and as you get further past your genetic limit. As you get bigger and bigger, you will require more and more steroids to be able to pull off a recomp unless you get detrained by taking an extended period off the gym. That being said, will you build more muscle eating at a bigger surplus? Yes, you will. But if your goal is to lose fat at the same time, then stay near maintenance calories.

To me, recomping is a myth. You are either gaining muscle, or losing fat. Doing both at the same time is extremely difficult and inefficient. Not to mention test is going to raise your estrogen levels making it more challenging to lose fat. You made no mention of estrogen management. 500mg of test a week is going to make you a bloated/fat mess without it. Especially on a first cycle.
Where is your bodyfat % currently? If you are over 20%, you need to focus on cutting. If you are under 15, you can work on adding size.

You will most definitely need AI on 500mg test-E. I’d begin it ~2 weeks or less into the cycle. It won’t be a lot, but a small dose like 0.25mg adex EOD or E3D.
