When using a long-acting insulin like Lantus or Levemir is this added to the body’s own natural production, or is it like AAS where the body stops producing its own, and lantus essentially becomes a replacement for your endogenous insulin?

Not a biologist, or a doctor, and I don’t use insulin, but there is no feedback loop with insulin. So exogenous administration won’t affect your pancreas’ ability to make it.

The basal insulins essentially relieve your pancreas of the full load necessary to reduce blood sugar to an acceptable level. I believe you’ll still be making insulin but at a reduced rate.

This is supposedly healthy or at least helpful to your pancreas in the short term. But I am unsure of the long term consequences of this.
