I have some lisinopril cause my Bp has started to get fairly high (150/80). I know that lisinopril can retain potassium and causes issues with your heart rhythm among other things. Do you guys avoid potassium or just eat a certain amount? I get a shitload of potassium from chicken & fairlife, both of which I eat every day.
ACE inhibitors like Lisinopril have a mode of action that is too complex and less targeted towards arterial dilation without going through a complex pathway that causes side effects.
Calcium Channel Blockers like amlodipine have one mode of action that directly effects the arteries causing them to dilate reducing blood pressure. Calcium causes heart and arteries to contract more strongly, by blocking calcium directly at these sites you cause the heart and arteries to relax. This doesn’t cause a systemic loss of calcium, that’s the beauty of these drugs compared to all other classes of blood pressure drugs that all seem to accomplish their goal by compromising something else.
CCB for me can cause slight insomnia so you take them in the morning when you wake up. I take a double dose 10mg, but even 5mg works pretty well.
For me on paper ACE, ARB, BB, and diuretics like HCTZ are all poor choices for long term blood pressure control because of side effects.
