Got skin removal surgery, fuck it hurts.

So I was a fat ass most of my life topping in at about 400lbs. Got down to 216lbs before surgery, was holding around 220lbs for almost two years before considering it. Dexa was putting me at 190lbs muscle so even though “the ending” weight seems high I wasn’t by any means fat at that point.

Got my abdomen and legs done, this shit hurts like a mother fucker.
Three days later still can barely walk, you’re wrapped in these tight abdominal and leg binders. Cant stand straight, idk how I managed to take a shit yesterday. If it wasn’t for my Gf taking care of me I wouldn’t even be able to get out/into bed.

Gonna be missing the gym for about 10 weeks, since I’m on TRT already hoping to do a nice first blast when I get back to fill out even more the places I didn’t need skin removal in.

Don’t be like me and get fat.

Some before/after pics here.

8 weeks post pics.

Would you be willing to post pics? I’m not that high in body fat but have thought about maybe one day getting the surgery but may not go through with it since i dont think its truly worth it

Also, any pics you can share? How much or insurance covered it?

I used to be heavy as well and never got past 285lbs but the loose skin is there ever since i cut bodyweight…

Insurance covered 0 here in Canada. I paid $11300 out of pocket not to mention missing about 3-4 weeks of work plus being on modified duty after the fact. So in reality it was much more expensive. I will get around to posting pics probably sometime tomorrow when I edit them for privacy.

I weighed 330, dropped to 220. Insurance won’t touch it, I was about about $7,000 total, plus missing work. Unless it’s something that honestly bothers you that bad, I wouldn’t mess with it

From what I’ve picked up, I think Insurance only picks up the bill for skin removal surgery if it’s causing issues with infection or other medically related quality of life. Loose skin flaps at the underarm/shoulder or between the legs chafing/bleeding/becoming infected would be a medically related QoL improvement or something along those lines. Not just to get rid of flappy flap arms. Still an uphill battle.

Good job on the weight loss.

Basically the health system here in Canada wouldn’t pickup the bill for it because I guess I wasn’t fat enough for my stomach to hang low enough. But even then it’s an uphill battle to get it paid for.

Funny enough if I decided to remain fat they would have had to pickup all the bills and millions of dollars that it would have cost them to keep me alive with the numerous health conditions that were for sure gonna happen as I got older. So go figure.

During the after maintaining my weight for about a year I also got my testosterone levels checked and they were shockingly low 150ng/dl. Which made sense as I’ve had numerous issues like anxiety, depression. And being always tired etc. So I got trt even though it took a very long time and I self medicated for a while. That’s how I found this place on Reddit.

Hahahaha they are painful. The legs are by far the worst of it.

But I’m showing major improvement everyday. My lower back is really fucked now though because I can only walk hunched over since the stomach area is so tight along with the abdominal Binder I have to wear.

I got someone close to me that might get this done in the near future. Bummer it is so painful. Good luck with your recovery.

What do they do with the extra, removed skin?
Make lamp shades with it.
Apparently I asked for a hat to be made out of it when coming out of anesthesia.

Thanks for sharing. Often think about it but the cost is high and I’m old and married so it would be solely for personal satisfaction. I think I have such bad body self image that even after surgery I’ll still hate how I look.
