Have had a nagging injury for the last couple of weeks. It’s a pain that feels like it originates in the middle of my upper quad and sometimes extends into my groin area. can’t train legs really as any variation of squatting causes pain and even quad extensions hurt if I go past 30 pounds. Also it feels as if my leg gives out when I walk up stairs and I have to hold onto railing. This is only in my right leg. Any ideas as to what it could be? I was thinking weakness in either the hip flexors or glutes.

When you say middle quad, do you mean center? How far up? By the illiquid crest? Honestly man it’s hard to diagnose anything over the internet. Assuming it’s a movement/muscle problem see a good PT or sports Chiro. Do you do any mobility or stretching FRC, or PNF type stuff?

I’d like to edit that the sartorius is a hip flexor that also bends the knee, starts at the hip, goes down the quad and to the groin before it inserts onto the tibia.

This?

I am dealing with it right now, for me, it is more than likely related to tight hamstrings which pull on glutes, back, etc.

The pain feels legit right on my hip bone where it connects to the quad.

Yeah, that could possibly be it. Started doing some glute and hamstring stretches and putting some heat on it and it seems to be slowly getting a little better.

Same thing I did, stretching plus right as I felt it get aggravated last leg workout on squats instead of being my usual dumbass self I stopped and didn’t push it at all.

Hoping a week off after that I can hit legs again tomorrow but we’ll see… never had this issue before until recently. I remember once I pinned my ventro glute and felt this exact same thing but it was more due to pinning like 5 hours before hitting legs.

The two hip flexors that cross the knee joint are the sartorius and rectus femorus. Your injury to one of those could be anything from tight hamstrings, hips (think TFL/glute medius) to adductors. I would definitely look at some of the stability stuff that squat university puts out that the other guy posted. And incorporate those stability drills and stretching inbetween your warmup sets for lower body. Could also be lack of dorsiflexion, leading to increased hip flexion when you squat to make up for it, which is impinging some of the structures there. If you google “clinical athlete” it should give you a list of MDs, PTs and DCs in your area who are familiar with barbell sports/lifting in general
