Mustang GT 5.0

Im looking to pick up a 2012 - 2015 Mustang GT 5.0. I always hated spending money on gas so I had cars that would get me over 35mpg. Recentky I been itching to just get the cars that I loved but did not want to get due to gas expenses.

Thoughts on this car? Or any car along this caliber. I got a budget of 20-23k for a used car around the years of 12-15

You need to feed mustangs a steady diet of curbs and pedestrians to keep them running properly. That can get pretty costly.

Camaro driver here… 🙂

If you care about MPG and still having performance, look towards Japanese or European Cars with turbos like the WRX or the A4 (though the A4 pre 2017 had significantly less HP than 2017 onward). That or the EcoBoost Mustang. I know loud cars with big engines sound bad ass, but I like hearing the music in my car’s nice audio system and those riding along with me. Though the sound and feel of a turbo kicking in is still nothing to sneeze at imho.

Oh yeah, the EcoBoost (turbo) Mustang is pretty impressive. I think it still gets over 30 mpg on highways despite having 310hp and 0-60 in 5.1 seconds. American cars aren’t traditionally known for doing turbos right, but Ford made something I wouldn’t complain about with the EcoBoost. Could probably have it custom tuned to bump up the HP quite a bit more if it mattered to you. I know on my A4, it would add at least 50-60 HP with negligible difference in MPG. I’m just waiting for the warranty period to end before I go doing anything like that.

Is that considered impressive? Serious question… my truck is a 2002 1/2 ton and it has 350 hp. 0-60 isn’t amazing but I just don’t see how anything less than like 450-500 hp is mentioned like it is noteworthy? Maybe 310 in a Miata but not a full size car.

It’s pretty good for a 4 cylinder engine + MPG (what the EcoBoost has). If you’re comparing to a 6 cylinder or 8, then no. The EcoBoost Mustang was designed to compete against the 4 cylinder turbo Euro/Japanese cars like the Subaru WRX, Audi A4 or BMW 328. It actually has more HP (and probably more torque) than all of the others I mentioned as well. Not trying to sell you on it or anything (I went with a Euro Car myself), but if you want a Mustang that’s more of a daily driver for work commutes while still having some decent power, it’s probably what I would prefer.

Okay, that makes a lot more sense. I just assumed V8 and thought it was weak. That is respectable for a 4 banger.
