Certain parts of the media have always been pretty bad with sensationalism and spinning stories for $$. Look up the reason we voted to declare war on Spain during the Spanish-American War 120 or so years ago. (tl;dr the largest media publisher at the time spun up a story about Spain allegedly destroying one of our battleships through sabotage. It turns out later that the real cause was a boiler in the engine room malfunctioning and exploding, not sabotage). Not all news outlets are like that, but many of the popular ones on both sides of the aisle are and their regular viewers are sadly okay with that.

That said, I stand on the side of free speech even if I don’t agree with what is being said. Sadly, many people do not put enough critical thought into what they read or fact check it. Our media is terrible. I don’t know when it became like this. I remember when I was younger the news was. This is what happened today and this is the result. Not this is what happened today and this is my opinion on it.

Certain parts of the media have always been pretty bad with sensationalism and spinning stories for $$. Look up the reason we voted to declare war on Spain during the Spanish-American War 120 or so years ago. (tl;dr the largest media publisher at the time spun up a story about Spain allegedly destroying one of our battleships through sabotage. It turns out later that the real cause was a boiler in the engine room malfunctioning and exploding, not sabotage). Not all news outlets are like that, but many of the popular ones on both sides of the aisle are and their regular viewers are sadly okay with that.

That said, I stand on the side of free speech even if I don’t agree with what is being said. Sadly, many people do not put enough critical thought into what they read or fact check it. I will say this… Remember a year or 2 back when it was a big thing about all these black men being shot by law enforcement? Well right in the middle of that, I had an old friend shot and killed by the cops while running away. He was white, didn’t reach for a gun or anything, just simply turned and ran away and they shot him in the back and killed him. Didn’t even make the news. Didn’t fit into the news agenda of black men being killed by law enforcement. This is how I know that they run stories only to push issues that they care about… It wasn’t about law enforcement, it was totally a race thing, cause that is what the news wanted to portray

One of the guys at my work…black guy. Got killed by a black cop. He got pushed into his car and held a gun point by a bank robber who robbed a bank right behind his house. The cop shot the vehicle up and it was driving AWAY from the cop. And the cop reloaded and kept firing. In a neighborhood. The guy slumped out of the car once it crashed and was begging for the cop to help him (this was found out from bystanders) and the cop kept shooting him cause he had his hand up like begging to help…never heard anything on the news even local. And the cop kept his job. Unbelievable. We know all the information at work cause he was a government employee and to pay out the insurance they had to investigate it. And those were the findings.

Totally. Even before the dropping of the charges the media was saying…if he is guilty it’s totally wrong and he should be punished. BUT he did start a conversation about hate crimes. What the fuck!!! Jesus… don’t even get me started on the far left libs. I am baffled everyday at some of the shit that goes on these days. Society is going a direction that makes me worry for the children of this generation.

What’s sad is it’s going to take a tragedy like another 911 to bring this country back together. We were all United after that. And since then we have been pushed apart by out media. It amazes me how the media is allowed to do the things they do. When does it go against free speech?

Like u can run in a movie theater and yell fire. That’s not free speech cause it will cause Hysteria. The media does that daily.

Most of the media pushes propaganda. It doesn’t do actual reporting or critical examination of any issues. It simply takes talking points from whichever side it supports and peddles that message to the public. It even breaks down to certain media supporting certain factions of each side. The Washington Post gets its material from certain government sources (the State Dept), and the NY Times gets material from and pushes the message of other government sources (FBI and intelligence community). Fox pushes propaganda from the other side. The media never examines the message it is given. It simply sells it, much like advertisters sell products. There’s no practical way to restrict it really; the fault is the inability of most people to engage in critical thinking and question the messages they are told to believe. There is thus no market for true reporting. A potential step is to allow libel suits against companies like Google and FB. They are immune currently because they are supposedly content neutral, which everyone can see they aren’t. One thing social media has done is surprise me at how many otherwise intelligent adults blindly swallow the propaganda they are fed by the side they support.
