Some things that have had the biggest impact on my mental health have been Jordan Peterson’s material and Self Authoring program, Johann Hari’s insights on the shortcomings of the current approach to mental health treatment, and the Wim Hof Method paired with mindfulness meditation.
I’m familiar with peterson aka I can’t stop talking about peter pan, and I think he and harris and hitchens etc provide a necessary and easily digestible counterpoint and guidance to american youth lost in the weird mix of their anti-science/pro-religious sjw culture devoid of any role models.

wim hof and meditation and everything that makes us reconnect/more aware of our body and mind I think really highly of!

Hey man, I’ve felt exactly like you. Ended up going to the doc and being put on 50mg Zoloft. I didn’t have a horrible time with it.

The drug seemed to slowly do its job, no zombie feels, had motivation to do everything most days as well. I did have the zombie feels for about a week or so, but they usually subside in time. My negative sides for zoloft: boners were weird for a bit, then it became HARD to cum. Sometimes it’d take 25min+, BUT I came away from Zoloft after 8 months - and I have felt relatively better since then. Although recently, I’ve decided to hop back on another medication, but I made it 13ish months without any meds like that after zoloft.

I know to other people who have used zoloft, one had the zombie sides for a lot longer than I did, the other just gets shitty sleeps sometimes, and that’s about it.

Just don’t miss your dose or do other dumb drugs while you’re on it.

My point being is that everyone reacts to stuff differently, if you don’t like zoloft try another medicine and keep doing that til you fix your problems. Depression and anxiety can be fixed with the right meds, never think otherwise!

Please message me if you’re curious about anything I’ve said / have questions, or just need someone to talk to. Depression sucks.

Med experiences are so dependent on the user that honestly you just have to try and see what works for you. Personally I hated SSRIs and couldn’t stand being on more than 2 months. I’ve had other friends whose lives were pretty much saved by SSRIs. Wellbutrin worked decently for me during a particular depressive episode. I think it works nicely for apathy, fatigue, low energy type depressions, maybe not as much for like existential anxiety, deep trauma, issues with self, etc.

I’m pretty hardcare atheist but I’ve had some very intelligent and scientific friends get good results with spirituality, especially Eastern religion. Meditation, yoga, dance, etc. Eastern religions are cool cuz they tend to be less about some man in the sky telling them not to eat certain foods and not to have sex with men like in more Western religions, but rather more the collective knowledge of thousands of years of people just trying to find the meaning of life.

Oh and this one I can’t overstate enough, but journaling is incredible. I think this is something that everyone can benefit from, no matter what form of depression.

Good luck man.
