Tips for dips?

Lol @ the rhyme in my title, unintentional but I’m keeping it.

But for real, any tips on accomplishing dips? I think maybe my body weight is a bit too high for my muscle mass, so every time I’ve attempted to do them, I don’t have the strength. My gym has an assisted-dips machine, but I honestly can’t figure out how to use it and don’t want to look like an idiot asking the teenage girl at the counter to show me.

Its totally possible too that I’m fucking up the form somehow and thats why I can’t get even 1 dip in. So if anyone has any tips for proper form, or anything else really, I’d appreciate it. Google only gets me so far.

If you barely can do a dip in very good form, put the weight 20lb below your weight. If you're 180, set it at 160 so you're only doing dips with 20lbs. With dips you want very good form. You don't want to hurt your shoulders. Watch a few videos of good form dips that concentrate on the pecs.

Don't worry about what you think others think you look like. They don't pay your bills.

Once you get the hang of it, set it with less weight so you're pulling up more of your own body weight. On a few months you'll be doing 25 good form dips without any assistance.

The form is what I’m pretty sure I’m doing wrong. Cuz I feel logically I should be able to do one haha.

But thanks for the video, I’ll definitely check it out and try the assisted machine tomorrow. I think part of the issue too is that the only thing to do dips on at my gym is a lot higher than the regular bars. Logically I feel that shouldn’t make a difference, but I think it is.
